CRUX

Catholic Faith Formation

The Cross is Our Foundation

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

— Joshua 1:9

CRUX (Latin: "Cross") is more than a name—it is the essence of our Catholic identity. The Cross is where heaven meets earth, where justice meets mercy, where God's love conquers death.

In a world that challenges our beliefs, Catholics are called to be bold, knowledgeable, and courageous. We don't just believe—we understand why we believe. We don't just pray—we stand firm in truth. We don't just hope—we carry our cross and follow Christ.

This is your training ground. Equip yourself with the truth of Christ, understand what we believe and why, and join a community ready to stand firm together.

Know What You Believe

The Cross: Our Call to Action

The Cross is not just a symbol we wear—it's a call to action. Following Christ means embracing the Cross in our own lives: standing for truth when it's difficult, loving sacrificially, and remaining faithful when the world pulls us away. At CRUX, we don't shy away from hard teachings or difficult questions. We embrace them. We dive deep into Scripture, study the richness of Catholic tradition, and equip believers to engage the culture with confidence and compassion. CRUX is where faith gets real.

What Catholics Believe and Why

Clear explanations of the foundations of our faith

1 The Trinity

Catholics believe in one God who exists as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This mystery is at the heart of our faith. God the Father creates and sustains all things. Jesus Christ, the Son, became human to save us. The Holy Spirit guides and strengthens the Church.

Why does this matter? Understanding the Trinity helps us know that God is a communion of love, and we're invited into that love. Our faith isn't about following rules, but about entering into a relationship with the living God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

2 Jesus Christ: True God and True Man

Catholics believe Jesus is both fully divine and fully human. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead on the third day, and ascended to heaven. Through His death and resurrection, He conquered sin and death.

Why does this matter? Because Jesus is both God and human, He perfectly bridges the gap between us and God. He understands our struggles because He lived as a human, and He can save us because He is God. His resurrection gives us hope for eternal life.

3 The Real Presence in the Eucharist

Catholics believe that during Mass, the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. This isn't just a symbol—Jesus is really present in the Eucharist. We call this transubstantiation.

Why does this matter? The Eucharist is the "source and summit" of our faith because we actually receive Jesus Himself. This incredible gift allows us to be united with Christ and nourished for our journey. Jesus said, "This is my body" and "This is my blood," and we take Him at His word.

4 The Sacraments

Catholics believe in seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation (Confession), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. These are outward signs instituted by Christ that give us grace—God's life within us.

Why does this matter? The sacraments aren't just rituals; they're encounters with Jesus at key moments in our lives. Through them, we receive the grace we need to grow in holiness and live as disciples. They connect us to 2,000 years of Christian tradition.

5 The Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic

Catholics believe the Church is the Body of Christ on earth, founded by Jesus and built on the apostles. We believe in the authority of Scripture and Tradition, and that the Pope and bishops are successors of the apostles with authority to teach and guide the Church.

Why does this matter? Faith isn't meant to be lived alone. The Church is our family, our teacher, and our guide. The unbroken line from the apostles to today's bishops (apostolic succession) ensures we're receiving the authentic teaching of Christ, not just personal opinions.

6 Mary and the Saints

Catholics honor Mary as the Mother of God and the greatest of all saints. We also ask Mary and the saints to pray for us, just as we ask our friends to pray for us. We don't worship them—we worship God alone—but we honor them as examples and ask for their intercession.

Why does this matter? Mary and the saints show us what it looks like to follow Jesus faithfully. They're part of the "great cloud of witnesses" cheering us on. Because death doesn't separate us from God's family, we can still ask our brothers and sisters in heaven to pray for us.

7 Life, Death, and Eternity

Catholics believe every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. We believe in heaven (eternal life with God), hell (eternal separation from God), and purgatory (final purification before heaven). We believe in the resurrection of the body and that Christ will come again in glory.

Why does this matter? How we live matters because our choices have eternal consequences. But God's mercy is infinite, and He wants everyone to be saved. Understanding heaven, hell, and purgatory helps us take our moral choices seriously while trusting in God's loving plan for us.
